Dea della Laguna

This body of work explores the socio-environmental problems that Venezia is going through.

My observation process started many years ago, every time I visited the city. Recently, after informal interviews with local people and hearing their struggle, I decided to translate their pain and exasperation into a visual language, where I try to create an underwater world, representing the future of a city that is at water level..sometimes slightly below water level...

I am interested in exploring and capturing the fragility of this majestic and amazing old city, full of history, architecture and art. This UNESCO World Heritage is in danger! Venice needs a sensible and sustainable tourism that lasts all year long, not a huge groups of tourists invading the secular narrow 'calli' of Venice during the high season. Tourists should enjoy what the city has to offer but at the same time become conscious of its environmental struggle and help raise awareness that Venice needs help.

I've always love this city..it's hard to see and feel it struggling, drowning..totally in danger...
